Wabi-sabi-inspired interior
Also called Wabi-sabi interiors
Contemporary wabi-sabi interiors draw on Japanese ideas of restraint, time and imperfection associated with wabi and sabi. Natural materials, uneven surfaces and gentle light can convey quiet use and ageing, but grey-beige colour, damaged objects or distressed walls alone cannot represent the broader cultural meaning.

Key traits

- 02Express time through use and natural changes in wood, objects or walls while allowing intact surfaces.
- 03Build tactile character with restrained material combinations, modest irregularity or handmade detail, without accumulating damage for effect.
- 04Use side light, shadow and subdued reflections to reveal depth, choosing color according to materials and setting.
